- Dear Sir,
I thank you for your efforts in favour of the recognition of the Armenian genocide by the city of Edinburgh.
During the Armenian genocide, more than 1.5 million of Armenian civilians were massacred, beheaded, tortured, raped and ripped up by Turkish soldiers.
90 years after, Turkey still denies the Armenian genocide, occupies the greater part of ancient Armenia, maintains a negationnist policy and spreads it throughout the world.
The Armenian genocide has officially been recognized by the United Nations, the European parliament and many states like France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Armenia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland, Lebanon, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay and the Vatican City. Moreover, 38 states of the USA, the Australian state of New South Wales and the greatest historians in the world have recognized it too.
I hope that the city of Edinburgh will do the same in November as well as the parliaments of Scotland and Britain very soon.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully.

- Dear Mr Kasparian
Thank you very much for your e-mail of 18 August and for your kind comments regarding recognition of genocide of the Armenian communities in the period from 1915. The City of Edinburgh of Council will take a decision on this matter in due course, most probably at November's Meeting of Full Council.
I hope this is helpful : however, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
Kind regards
Edinburgh August 19 2005
Councillor Donald Anderson
Leader - City of Edinburgh Council
